Tanhā
Consuming Bliss

"Critical design is critical thought translated into materiality. It is about thinking through design rather than through words and using the language and structure of design to engage people."

Dunne & Raby, 2013
Tanhā = In Buddhism, desire is considered to be the cause of all suffering that binds people to the cycle of rebirths. Tanhā refers to all forms of desire, whether they are directed towards food, life, sex or any other object.

Tanhā is an experimental design & communication project that aims to expose the commodification of social issues. A product was designed, a website created and an online advertising campaign launched to encourage users to "buy" the mock product. The number of interested "buyers" was recorded. After the apparent purchase, they were asked to answer predefined questions that aimed to learn whether or not the project had inspired some sort of buyer-reflection.

This project was developed in collaboration with Tobias Moserand Moritz Keller
