Aesthetics of the
Manosphere
The widespread use of images in social media has further emphasized the need for an interdisciplinary approach to image analysis. Manosphere = a loose, mostly anti-feminist online community. It includes online content that pursues various goals, such as self-help, hegemonic masculinity, dating advice and the domination of female sexuality.
The analysis of digital representations of male ideals provides a deep insight into the construction of masculinity in various contexts. The theoretical analysis of this work aims to work out a recognizable aesthetic of the manosphere in order to give viewers a trained eye. This should make it possible to question consumed content more critically and create an awareness of the underlying messages. This sensitization is crucial to understanding the mechanisms of radicalization within the manosphere. The practical part of the thesis (Enter the Manosphere) builds on this theoretical foundation to illustrate the radicalization process.
